Singapore Strait - the strait connecting the South China Sea and the Strait of Malacca . In the north it is bounded by the Malacca peninsula and the island of Singapore , in the south - by the Riau archipelago. The length of the strait is 114 kilometers, the width is from 12 to 21 kilometers, the smallest depth at the fairway is 22 meters [1] .

The name of the strait is associated with the island of Singapore , on which the city-state of the same name and port are located.
The Strait of Singapore and Malacca form an important sea route from the Pacific to the Indian Ocean . Over a year, more than 50 thousand vessels pass through the strait.
In the strait, as in all straits of the Indonesian archipelago, attacks of pirates are still observed. Indonesian and Singapore authorities record up to 1,500 cases per year .
