Biography
Born in a family of teachers. He was brought up in an orphanage. At the end of a ten-year school, he entered the acting department of the Kiev Theater Institute . Before entering the institute he studied at the theater studio, where he met his future wife Zoya Efimovna Genkina [4] [6] .
In 1941, he began working in the Kharkov newspaper Stalin's Tribe. During one of the bombing of the city was shell-shocked; Having received a one-year deferment from draft in the army, he went with his wife's family to Central Asia. After the postponement, a shortened training course was held at the Grozny Infantry School. He commanded a mortar battery on the Stalingrad Front , where he was seriously wounded, as a result of which he became an invalid of the second group with a fragment in his chest. After being wounded, he served in Tajikistan for some time. In 1946 he moved with his wife to Kiev, where in the same year his eldest son Leonid was born, in 1954 - the youngest son Sergei. In 1946-1948 he continued his studies at the Kiev Theater Institute. He worked as a traveling correspondent for the newspaper "On the gas pipeline" ( At the construction of the gas pipeline ), an employee of the industrial department of the newspaper "Radyanska Ukraina" ( Soviet Ukraine ). In 1954-1964 he headed the correspondent office of Literary Newspaper in the Ukrainian SSR. In 1965-1972 he was the chief editor of the yearbook of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR and the Knowledge Society of the Ukrainian SSR “Ukraine. Science and Culture ”( Ukraine. Science and Culture ) [3] [4] [6] .
He made his debut in literature in 1941. The author of the novel “Big Concerns” (1954), the collection of essays “Good mood” (1958), the novels “A Man Can” (1960), “Thieves in a House” (1963), “A Fun Roman” (1972), and fantastic novels and short stories “European Dream Book” (1986), “Atomic Warning” (1987) and others. For middle-aged and older children, he wrote the novels “The Girl and the Poultry Cell” (1966, the main character’s poems were written by Leonid Kiselyov), “Love and Potato” (1979) [2] [3] [4] [6] . The works were filmed (“ Transitional Age ”, 1968 - based on the novel “Girl and Poultry Cell”), translated into Ukrainian, Polish, Czech, German and Japanese.
He was friends with the writer Victor Nekrasov , who emigrated to France, which is why at one time he had difficulty publishing works [6] .
He was buried at the Baykovsky cemetery in Kiev [1] [4] .
