Biography
Victor Andreevich Fausek was born into a noble family. His grandfather - Franz Fausek - moved to serve in Russia from the Czech Republic at the beginning of the XIX century; his mother is Ekaterina Ivanovna Eifert (Eifert), from a German family, the granddaughter of a French emigrant. Baptized in the Roman Catholic rite with the name Victor Emmanuel; at the age of 10, he is “attached to the Orthodox Church” with his parents, brothers and sister.
Childhood and early youth passed in the estate of Princess Meshcherskaya, in the village of Aleksandrovka, Starobelsky district, Kharkov province (now the urban-type village of Lozno-Aleksandrovka, Belokurakinsky district, Lugansk region of Ukraine ), where his father, Andrei (Franz) Frantsevich (c. 1825 - 12.3.1897) was the manager.
He studied at the gymnasium in Moscow . In 1879 he graduated from the 3rd Kharkov gymnasium and entered the natural department of the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of Kharkov University [1] . In 1884 he moved to St. Petersburg University and graduated in 1886. Then he worked in the Zoological Office with Professor N.P. Wagner .
In 1891 he defended his thesis for a master's degree in zoology. In the summer of 1886 he traveled to the Stavropol province , receiving a subsidy from the Geographical Society for zoological excursions.
In the summer of 1888 and 1889, at the expense of the St. Petersburg Society of Naturalists and the Geographical Society, he made two trips to the north: during the first he studied at the Solovetsky Biological Station , during the second he was on Murman and in the region of the Kandalaksha Bay . In 1889, he explored Lake Mogilnoye on Kildin Island and discovered marine fauna and flora in the southeastern part of this reservoir. At the request of Fausek, the colonist Ericksen caught half an hour on the hook 16 specimens of cod from the lake. BA Fausek attributed Lake Mogilnoye to the number of relict lakes formed as a result of the negative movement of the coastline. He did not notice the influence of sea tides and ebbs on the water level in the lake, but he allowed the possibility of seepage through the bridge, which was later confirmed.
In 1895 and 1896 he was sent abroad; worked at the Neapolitan zoological station . In 1898 he received a doctorate in zoology from Moscow University . In 1892–94, he lectured as a private assistant professor at St. Petersburg University , and since 1897 he was a professor at the Higher Women's Courses and the Women's Medical Institute . In 1903 and 1904, on behalf of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society , he made two trips to the Trans-Caspian region for the purpose of biological research. Since September 1905, after the introduction of autonomy, he was elected director of the Higher Women's Courses . Collaborated with the magazine " Russian wealth ".
