Biography

According to the author's intention, Bilbo was originally a very respectable hobbit from a respected family. Subsequently, he completely lost his reputation, as he was engaged in completely indecent (for a respectable hobbit) affairs, such as traveling: he was friends with elves and gnomes, wrote poems. However, he himself did not regret such a loss, especially since his condition was substantially replenished with imported gold.

For the first time, Bilbo appears in the story " The Hobbit, or There and Back ", which tells how in 2941 T. E. enchanter Gandalf the Gray persuaded him, along with a group of dwarfs led by Thorin Duboschit, to take over the liberation of the Podgorny Kingdom in Erebor , captured Dragon Smaug Gold . During this campaign, Bilbo more than once rescued the gnomes who had hired him, saving them from certain death in the snares of the Spiders of Digital Forest and from elven prison imprisonment. At the same time, he finds his weapon in the stone trolls' caves - the Elven Sword of Sting , which later gives Frodo Baggins to his adopted nephew.

When passing through the Hazy Mountains Bilbo, miraculously avoiding captivity goblins, meets with Gollum and finds in the cave under the mountains the Ring of Absolute Power . In the end, the Bilbo campaign with the dwarves to the east ends in victory overshadowed by the death of the leader of the dwarves, Thorin, and his nephews Fili and Keely in the Battle of the Five Armies. After the liberation of Mount Bilbo returns home to the west, with great wealth, redeems most of his property back (since he was declared dead at home) and has not shown himself for almost 60 years, living quietly and peacefully for his own pleasure.

The second time we meet Bilbo on the pages of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Having lived a longer life than the usual hobbit, Bilbo decides to leave the Shire and visit his old friends in Dale after the next 111th birthday. After that, he settles in Rivendell - possession of Elrond . The ring remains with Frodo, who was later destined to destroy him. [1] Bilbo himself, in 132th year of life, leaves Middle-earth and leaves with Frodo, Gandalf and the elves beyond the Sea.

From the intra-world point of view, Bilbo is the author of the first part of the Scarlet Book (“Journey There and Back”), songs, poems and translations from the Elvish languages . Before sailing, he composes a poem known as the last song of Bilbo (in the real world it was published only after Tolkien's death, the text of The Lord of the Rings is not included).

Bilbo Residence

The dwelling Bilbo is named after the genus to which Bilbo belongs. In various translations the house was called: “Bag-End”, “Sumkina Gorka” and “Torba-na-Kruche”. This is a typical well-arranged hobby hole, built by Bilbo's father for his mother (partly on her own money) and inherited by Bilbo.

Bilbo's door to the mink had an unusually round shape, like a manhole cover, and it was painted in a bright green color, with a shiny copper handle right in the middle. The door opened into the hallway that looked like a tunnel: a very cozy tunnel without smoke, with facing on the walls, with carpets on the tiled floor, with polished chairs and lots of pegs for raincoats and hats, as he often received guests. Everything in Bilbo Baggins' house was located on the same floor: bedrooms, bathrooms, storerooms (there were a lot of them), dressing rooms (whole rooms filled with clothes), kitchens, and dining rooms. The best rooms in the house of Baggins were to the left of the entrance, as soon as they had windows that were round, they looked out into the garden and into the meadows behind them, going down to the river.

Bilbo's Parents

Bungo Baggins - father of Bilbo Baggins. Very respectable, conservative hobbit with an impeccable reputation, completely devoid of any oddities and eccentricities. Mentioned briefly in the book " The Hobbit, or There and Back ." He was married to Belladonne Tuk, who emerged from a less respectable, but more prosperous family.

Belladonna Baggins , nee Tuk - mother Bilbo Baggins, wife Bungo. The first mention of it is present in the book " The Hobbit, or There and Back ." Belladonna Tuk is one of the three daughters of Old Tuck, the head of the Hobbits who lived on the other side of Water, which makes Bilbo a distant relative of Peregrin Tuk . Gandalf especially mentions her, opposing her to Bilbo himself, very much like his respectable father. Bungo built for her (partly on her own money ) the most luxurious hole in which she remained until the end of her days and in which later Bilbo lived.

It is often mentioned that Bilbo was very similar to his father, but he inherited from his mother a hidden inclination towards adventures , which suddenly woke up in him from time to time. It is said that Bilbo had the “Baggins” and “Tukov” sides of character, the first was respectable, conservative, disliked by novelty and in general any events and incidents, the second was active, adventurous and poetic.
