Henkin, Victor Lvovich

Viktor Lvovich Henkin ( January 1, 1923 , Moscow - January 20, 2010 , ibid.) - Russian chess player , journalist and theoretician, chess observer for the newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets . Master of Sports of the USSR (1962).

Champion of the Central Administration of the DSO "Wings of the Soviets" (1958).

Known as an endgame specialist. Together with Yu. L. Averbakh , V. A. Chekhover , N. A. Kopaev and I. L. Mayzelis, he participated in the work on the series of books “ Chess Ends ”. He is the author of the Queen against the Rook section in the volume devoted to the Queen's Endgame. [one]

Member of World War II . Guard Lieutenant. Participated in the defense of Leningrad . He was the platoon commander of machine gunners, the commander of a rifle company, the chief of staff of the regiment's intelligence. In June 1944, he was seriously wounded in the Vyborg area. For military merits awarded the Order of the Red Star . [2]

He was buried with his mother and older brother in the columbarium of the Don cemetery in Moscow.
