Association Rating

The rating of football associations and, accordingly, the distribution of places in the 1999/2000 Champions League among countries was formed on the basis of the UEFA odds table , which took into account the results of club performances in official European club competitions from the 1993/1994 season to the 1997/1998 season inclusively [1] .

The 1999/2000 Champions League draw was attended by 71 teams from 47 UEFA associations. Each association has the right to submit a certain number of teams to participate in the draw in accordance with the coefficient after the 1997/1998 Euro Cup season:

  • Associations taking places from 1 to 3 (Spain, Italy and Germany): 4 teams
  • Associations taking places from 4 to 6 (France, England and the Netherlands): 3 teams
  • Associations taking places from 7 to 15: 2 teams
  • Associations ranking 16 to 48: 1 team

First qualification round

  • 18 association champions from 30 to 48 (except Liechtenstein)

Second qualification round

  • 9 clubs that won the first qualifying round
  • 13 champions of associations 17-29 places
  • 6 clubs, runners-up in associations of 10-15 places

Third qualification round

  • 6 champions of associations of 11-16 places
  • 3 clubs, runners-up in associations of 7-9 places
  • 6 clubs that took third places in associations 1-6 places
