Gennady Panteleimonovich Provatorov ( March 11, 1929 , Moscow , USSR - May 4, 2010 [1] , Minsk , Belarus ) is a Russian and Belarusian conductor. People's Artist of the RSFSR ( 1981 ), Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus , Laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus .

Biography
He graduated from the Moscow Conservatory as a pianist with A. B. Goldenweiser ( 1952 ), and then as a conductor with K. P. Kondrashin and A. V. Gauka ( 1956 ).
In 1955 - 1961 he was the conductor of the symphony orchestras of the Moscow Regional, Kharkov and Dnepropetrovsk Philharmonic Society, and in 1961 - 1965 - the Musical Theater named after K. S. Stanislavsky and V. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko . In 1962, Provatorov conducted the premiere of the second edition of the opera Dm. Shostakovich " Katerina Izmailova ", then writing it down (record awarded in France Grand Prix du Disque 1966).
In 1965 - 1968 he headed the orchestra of the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theater , in 1968 - 1971 - the Leningrad Maly Opera and Ballet Theater , in which, under the leadership of Provatorov, Benvenuto Cellini by Berlioz (for the first time in the USSR) and Turandot ”by Puccini , Stravinsky ballets “ Spring is sacred ” , “ Petrushka ” , “ Firebird ” . In 1971 - 1981 Provator was the chief conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the Kuibyshev Philharmonic .
Since 1984 he lived and worked in Belarus. In 1984 - 1989 he headed the State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater of the Byelorussian SSR , continued to work with him in subsequent years; Among the productions of Provatorov are the operas of Mussorgsky “Khovanshchina” and Prokofiev “War and Peace” , the ballets by Tchaikovsky “Swan Lake” and Prokofiev “Romeo and Juliet” , as well as works by Belarusian composers - the premieres of the opera “The Lady's Visit” by Sergei Cortes ( 1995 ) and the ballet The Passion (Rogned) by Andrei Mdivani ( 1996 ); among the students: conductor Igor Bukhvalov, conductor Yevgeny Stepantsov, conductor of the chamber orchestra of the Belarusian Concern, Pyotr Vandilovsky, conductor of the National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet of the Republic of Belarus, Vyacheslav Volich and Ivan Kostikhin, conductor of the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus , Syntko, a syntco, and atend of the Republic of Belarus ; Philharmonic Society Vladimir Ovodok .
G.P. Provatorov died on May 4, 2010 after a serious illness in Minsk. On May 7, 2010, at 8:00, a funeral was held at the Minsk Holy Spirit Cathedral , at 12:00 a civil memorial service was held at the Belarusian State Academy of Music in Minsk [2] .
