The mystery of the black king

In one of the houses in the evening there was a fire, which was successfully extinguished. After that, two detectives appear in the building, who are investigating the causes of the incident. They find some evidence - a stove, iron-troused pants, the iron itself and an empty gas canister, and on the street at the stop they pick up a chess piece - the black king. It becomes clear that a potential culprit must be sought among chess players.

The next day, detectives come to the city's culture and leisure park, where a chess tournament takes place at this time, and begin to search for the suspect. Their efforts are crowned with success - one chess player in the set does not have a figure. He, realizing that he was caught, is forced to tell the detectives about everything that happened then.

As it turned out, that evening, when the fire occurred, a fuse was blown out of the house on the electric panel, which led to a blackout. But the culprit of the fire showed resourcefulness, putting instead of a knocked out fuse a makeshift "bug". The light turned on, and all the inhabitants of the house returned to their business. Then one of the housewives, who was frying fish on a primus stove, ran out of kerosene, and instead of it poured gas into the primus stove, and placed the canister in the corridor under an electrical panel. The hero of this story himself at that time stroking his pants with an iron, and then a friend came to him. The owner took out chess and invited the guest to play the game, forgetting about the iron. Both of them were so carried away by the game that the owner remembered the iron even when the smell of smoke in the apartment. He rushed to turn off the iron, but did not have time - the power supply in the iron did not withstand the voltage drop, and the light in the house again went out. Then he left the apartment in complete darkness and went to the touch by touch, but accidentally touched the canister, it capsized and all its contents spilled onto the floor. And the culprit of the fire immediately lit a match in order to inspect the shield in the light of a spark, and spilled gasoline flared up.

After the story ends, detectives transform into firefighters, and a warning message appears on the screen:

Comrades! Failure to comply with fire regulations will result in accidents. Be careful!

The French magazine " Cinema ( French Cinéma ) , covering the festival, noted that its authors were particularly struck by the cartoon from Ukraine, made in yellow and black colors, very similar to the Yugoslav animation ^[3] .
