Nanjiang (Nunkiang, Chinese ex. 嫩江 省 , pinyin : Nènjiāng shěng ), province of northeastern part of the Republic of China . It covers an area of 67034 km². The administrative center is Qiqihar .
History
Nenjiang Province (1945-1949)
Since ancient times, the territory of the province was inhabited by the Mongols and Manchus . In 1907 , Heilongjiang Province was formed with the center in Qiqihar. In 1932 , after the Japanese forces occupied northeastern China, the province became a part of Manchukuu called Longjiang. After China’s victory over Japan in 1945 , it was renamed Nenjiang to avoid confusion with Heilongjiang Province. In May 1949, it was abolished as an independent unit and became part of Heilongjiang.
