Description
Ordinary coca is a small tailless amphibian 3-5 cm long, males are slightly smaller than females. However, despite their small size, males can make sounds up to 100 dB (“co-cues”, hence the name).
Distribution
The birthplace of the species is Puerto Rico , Coca is one of the unofficial symbols of the island.
The species is also introduced to the US Virgin Islands [4] and Hawaii , where it created an environmental problem in coastal areas (the frog has not yet risen to a height of more than 1100 m above sea level) [5] . The problem lies not only in the invasion of species alien to island ecosystems ( biological pollution ) that do not have natural enemies and competitors, but also in the very loud cries of frogs emitted by males at night, which interferes with the sleep of residents.
