Station Design

Verkhne-Mutnovskaya GeoPP is a geothermal power plant with direct steam use. The installed capacity of the power plant is 12 MW . The geothermal coolant (steam-water mixture) enters the station through pipelines from wells (as of 2017, 2 wells are in operation) drilled at the Mutnovsky steam-hydrotherm field. At the site of the power plant, the steam-water mixture is separated on separators (Average heat carrier composition: 26% steam, 74% separat), after which the steam is sent to the turbines, and hot water (waste separator) is pumped back into the rock formations through re-injection wells. The main generating equipment of the Verkhne-Mutnovskaya GeoPP includes three turbines with a capacity of 4 MW each, each of which consists of a Tuman 4K steam turbine and a TK-4-2ZUZ generator. The generated electricity is supplied to a 220 kV complete gas-insulated switchgear (switchgear) of the Mutnovskaya GeOES and then to the power system via a single-circuit 220 kV overhead line Mutnovskaya GeoES - Avacha substation [1] [2] .

History of construction and operation

Projects for the construction of geothermal power plants at the Mutnovsky steam-hydrotherm field have been considered since the 1980s. In 1994-1995, Nauka JSC developed a business plan, a feasibility study for the project and a technical design for the pilot industrial Verkhne-Mutnovskaya GeoPP. The construction of the station was started in 1996, the first two turbine units were launched in 1999, the third in 2000. Verkhne-Mutnovskaya GeoES operates as part of the central power center of the Kamchatka energy system, operating in isolation from the UES of Russia . The energy center is formed in the southern part of the Kamchatka Territory, where the bulk of the population lives. Mutnovskaya geothermal power station, Kamchatka TPP-1 and TPP-2 , hydroelectric power stations of the Tolmachevsky hydroelectric power station cascade are operating simultaneously with the Verkhne-Mutnovsky GeoPP. Mutnovskaya GeoPP production is about 65 million kWh per year [2] [1] [3] [4] .
