Marine Naiad ( Latin: Nájas marína ) is an annual aquatic plant , a species of the Naiad genus .

Botanical Description
A plant with a thin, very brittle branched stem 15–70 cm long and up to 1.5 mm thick.
The leaves are linear-oblong or linear, sessile, straight, 1-5 cm long and up to 2 mm wide, in whorls of three, the stem and middle vein of the leaf from below are usually with spines .
Monoecious plant. In the European part of Russia it blooms in July-August.
Fruits are 4-6.5 mm long and about 2-3 mm wide. In the European part of Russia bears fruit in August-September.
The number of chromosomes 2n = 12 [3]
Distribution and Ecology
The area is a temperate zone of Eurasia , South and North America . The species is also found in Africa .
In the European part of Russia, it is distributed in the southern half of the European part, mainly in the Volga , Don and Oka basins , sometimes abundantly, and in the Asian part - in the south of Western Siberia .
It grows in fresh and slightly saline reservoirs. Propagated and spread by seeds.
