Bedzinsky castle

Bendzinsky castle ( polish. Zamek w Będzinie ) - a medieval fortified building, exemplarily restored in the 19th-20th centuries, in the Polish city of Będzin . The construction of the castle dates back to the reign of Casimir the Great . In 1588, Maximilian III of Austria was imprisoned in it, who was defeated in the struggle for the Polish throne . The 17th century Swedish invasions left the castle in ruins. At the beginning of the 19th century, the question was raised about their demolition, but the Polish patriot Count Edward Raczynski bought out a monument of antiquity and financed its reconstruction.

Architecture

Initially, a wooden fortress was built on the site of the Bedzinsky castle, burned down during the Mongol invasion . After some time, under Boleslav V , the stone Round Tower was erected, the oldest part of the castle that has survived to this day. Under Casemir III, the castle was completed with a complex of buildings, forming together with the Round Tower the upper castle, and a double wall. To protect urban buildings, a third wall was built. In place of the wall that collapsed in the 19th century, a structure consisting of three arches and outwardly resembling a bridge was erected [1] .

From the observation deck on the Round Tower you can see [1] .
