The European Cup 1967/68 ( Eng. 1967–68 European Cup ) was the 13th draw of the European Cup , the main European cup tournament. The victory in the tournament was won for the first time by Manchester United , who defeated Benfica in the final. This was the first victory of the English team in the European Cup [1] . Manchester United managed to win the tournament ten years after the Munich plane crash , in which 8 Manchester United players died, and their coach Matt Busby was on the verge of death [2] .
