Locomotive depot ( Traction , PM ) - a depot in which the maintenance or repair of locomotives is carried out. Locomotive depots are divided into main depots, which serve as the place of registration of locomotives, and negotiable, in which the locomotives are prepared for traveling with trains in the direction of the main depot. In the main depots, repairs and maintenance of locomotives are carried out, in the working depots there are points for equipping and conducting maintenance of the second volume (TO2) to locomotives and the rest house of locomotive crews. Also, repair depots began to be allocated into a separate category - they did not have an assigned fleet of locomotives, but they performed large types of repairs (TR-2, TR-3, SR, KR-1) for the needs of an entire railway or several roads.

Motor car depot - a locomotive depot specializing in the operation, repair and maintenance of motor car rolling stock ( electric trains ).

The designation “PM” (traction) applies to them, although there are motor car depots designated “Ministry of Internal Affairs” (for example, MVD-5 Irkutsk-Sortirovochny ). In total, there are 57 railway transport enterprises in the Russian Federation that have motorcar rolling stock in the attribution park, 32 of which are motorcar depots. The largest number of motorcar depots includes the Moscow Railway branch (11). Mainly car depots are adjacent to the main passenger stations of large settlements, regional centers (for example, Nizhny Novgorod-Moscow , Rostov-Glavny ) or at a short distance from the main stations within settlements (for example, the First River in the city of Vladivostok , Bezymyanka in the city of Samara ), with the exception of Moscow and St. Petersburg, where car depots serve certain areas.
