Distribution and Ecology
The range of boxwood is very wide, family representatives are found in the temperate , subtropical and tropical regions of Eurasia , Africa and America , as well as on the islands of Madagascar and Socotra .
Botanical Description
Most boxwoods are evergreen shrubs and low trees , and only pachisander species are perennial herbs .
Leaves are simple, whole or jagged. The arrangement of the leaves is opposite or alternate .
The flowers are small, leafless. Sepals 4–5, in male flowers of styloceras — absent.
The fruit of boxwood and pachisander is a box , for sarcococcus and stylocera, is drupe .
