Olguín ( Spanish: Holguín ) is one of the provinces of Cuba , located in the east of the island.

Content
Geography
It is bordered in the northwest by the Atlantic Ocean , and on other sides by the provinces of Las Tunas , Granma , Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo . The administrative center of the province is the city of the same name . Until 1976 was part of the disbanded provinces Oriente [1] .
25% of the province is covered with forest.
History
Presumably on the territory of the modern province of Holguin , October 27, 1492, Christopher Columbus landed on the shore. At the site of the proposed landing monument is installed.

Economy
The province’s economy is based on sugarcane cultivation and sugar production. Coffee and corn are also grown. Mining is underway. The province has several plants of ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy, built with the participation of foreign capital. Relatively recently, tourism began to develop. On the territory of the province there are two national parks , the Alexander Humboldt National Park and the Sierra Crystal .
