Biography
Born in a Russian working class family. He graduated from high school, studied at the flying club in Nikolaev .
In 1941, drafted into the ranks of the Red Army . In 1942 he graduated from the Borisoglebsk Military Aviation Pilot School . In the battles of World War II from April 1943. He flew first on LaGG-3 , then on La-5 FN. He received baptism of fire near Kharkov - together with I. N. Kozhedub shot down ME-109 .
In 1943 he joined the Communist Party . At the end of 1943 he began to command the reconnaissance squadron. On October 18, 1943, in the Zaporozhye region, he entered into an unequal battle with four fascist ME-109s (one shot down and the rest put to flight), after which he continued reconnaissance flight, in which he found an enemy convoy with artillery, 37 tanks and 150 vehicles; the stormtroopers called up by radio destroyed a lot of enemy manpower and equipment. November 13, 1943 in the area of Nikopol - Tomakovka - Kontserovka discovered two regiments of fascist infantry, 500 vehicles, 24 tanks and 13 armored cars. January 18, 1944 in the triangle Apostolovo - Kryvyi Rih - Dolgintsevo discovered a Nazi regiment with artillery and tanks, and at the Pavlopole station - two railway trains from which infantry and vehicles were unloaded.
By March 1944, the deputy squadron commander of the 31st fighter aviation regiment of the 295th fighter aviation division of the 17th Air Army of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, Captain P.G. Yakubovsky had 344 sorties, 56 air battles, 14 downed aircraft ( 13 - in person, 1 - as part of a group).
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 26, 1944, for the courage and heroism shown in air battles with Nazi invaders, Captain Yakubovsky Pyotr Grigoryevich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal.
He fought in the sky of Romania , Bulgaria , Yugoslavia , Hungary . Participated in the rescue of American pilots, US President Franklin Roosevelt was awarded the Order of the Golden Cross for Combat Flight Merit.
In 1945 he was appointed commander of the 3rd Squadron. In March 1945, the regiment was rearmed with La-7 aircraft and fought in Austria. By the end of the war, Captain P. G. Yakubovsky accounted for 407 sorties, 86 air battles, and 20 personally shot down enemy aircraft [2] . Itself was not shot down, its aircraft did not have serious damage.
After the war he continued to serve in the Air Force. In 1949 he graduated from the Frunze Military Academy , in 1971 - the Higher Central Officer Courses of the Civil Defense of the USSR.
In 1973 he was transferred to the reserve with the rank of colonel. He worked as deputy head of the information service of the Ministry of Construction of the USSR .

- He was buried in Moscow at the Kuntsevsky cemetery (plot 9-3). There is a monument on the grave.
- The name of P. Yakubovsky is carved on a stele among other Heroes on the Walk of Fame in the city of Zaporozhye .
