The island is washed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean . In the south, the relief of the island is mostly flat. In Wales, the Cambrian mountains are located up to 1085 m high (Mount Snowdon , if we understand the Cambrian mountains in the broad sense). In the north of England are the Pennine Mountains (up to 893 m, Cross Fell ), passing in the west to the Cumberland Mountains (up to 978 m, Pike ), and to the South Scottish Upland (up to 843 m, Merrick ) - in the north. The latter is separated by the Lowlands from the Highlands with the highest mountains of Ben Nevis (1344 m) and Ben MacDouy (1309 m).

The longest rivers of Great Britain are the Severn (354 km) and Thames (334 km), the largest lakes are Loch Lomond (71 km²) and Loch Ness (56 km²), the largest peninsulas are Wales and Cornwall .
