Supertek Computers Inc. - An American company, a computer manufacturer. Founded in 1985 in Santa Clara, California, previously a project manager at Hewlett-Packard , Mike Fang, with the goal of designing and selling low - cost mini -computers compatible with Cray computers.
The company's first product was Supertek S-1 , a compact clone of the air-cooled Cray X-MP vector supercomputer that was running the Cray Time Sharing System , and later one of the Unix versions. It was released in 1989. Only 10 units were sold until the moment when Supertek Computers was bought by Cray Research in 1990, after which the S-1 was sold for a short time already as Cray XMS . At the time of the company’s purchase, the Supertek S-2 , a clone of Cray Y-MP , which in 1992 was released as Cray Y-MP EL , was under development.
