History

The Yat-Ha group was formed in 1992 in Moscow by Albert Kuvezin and electronic musician Ivan Sokolovsky , known, in particular, as a member of the Night Prospect and Center groups. The music of that period was saturated, in addition to Albert Kuvezin's Tuvan throat singing , with electronic industrial elements, and even resembled the music of bands such as Front 242 .

After the release of the eponymous album "Yat-Ha", the creative paths of Kuvezin and Sokolovsky diverged. Ivan Sokolovsky released his (processed and enlarged) version of the Yat-Ha album titled Tundra's Ghosts in 1996-1997.

Subsequently, the group consisted of Kuvezin and other musicians, among whom the only more or less permanent member of the group is Evgeny Tkachev . In music, electronics has changed to rock and postpunk .

The group made several world tours, performing mainly outside of Russia . One of the people in the West with whom the group collaborated was Lou Edmonds , known as a member of Public Image Ltd.

Starting in 2001 , Yat-ha also performed the live soundtrack to the silent film of Vsevolod Pudovkin 1928 " Descendant of Genghis Khan ." In 2002, the group won the BBC Radio 3 World Music Awards in the Asia Pacific nomination.

In 2005, the band released an album of Re-Covers cover versions featuring songs by bands such as Joy Division , Iron Butterfly , Kraftwerk , sung by Albert Kuvezin's throat singing.

In 2008, the song “Ahoy”, also known as “Enesai” performed by the band of the same name, recorded with the singer Saylyk Ommun, was used as the soundtrack for the Yakut horror film “ Death Path 2”

In January 2011, the album Poets and Lighthouses took the top spot in European World Music Charts.

Musical characteristic

The musicians play rock music with an admixture of avant-garde, put on the Tuvan folk melodies. The group uses both throat singing traditional for Tuvan music as vocals and regular vocals. To the features of the game, you can add non-standard sizes and an accelerating rhythm to the end of the song. The band’s leader himself, Albert Kuvezin, talks about the band’s music as follows:

We, after all, are modern people and therefore we are closer to rock and roll, but the roots are undoubtedly traditional music: throat singing accompanied by folk instruments. Traditional for our culture melody. Electric guitars sound against a background atypical for rock music, more lively Asian, including Arabic rhythms. Musicians playing such music are always peculiar bridges, thanks to which the connection of times
