The monument to the defenders of the city (“Defenders of the Soviet regime in 1919” or “The courage of the Red Army in 1919”) is a monument in the Latvian city ​​of Daugavpils . Named as a monument to the red Latvian riflemen ( „sarkanajiem strēlniekiem“ [1] ), later became known as the monument to the defenders of the city in 1919 ( „Daugavpils aizstāvjiem 1919. gadā“ [2] ) or the defenders of the city of 1919 [3] .

Opened July 5, 1975 during the celebration of the 700th anniversary of the city. The sculptor is Indulis Folkmanis , the architect is V. A. Kalnins . The work of the sculptor lasted five years (1970-1975). The weight of the statue is 9.5 tons.

It is located at the mouth of the river Lautses , which flows into the Daugava , in the area of Griva , near the bridge over Lautses and the busy highway junction. The monument was not destroyed after the restoration of independence of Latvia .
