Game
Karl Humenberger began his career at the Floridsdorf Club, where he debuted in the autumn of 1926. The young football player was immediately placed in the center of the field, in a place that had previously been occupied by the famous football player Leopold Drucker . The "Floridsdorf" team in those years "did not have enough stars from the sky", but was always a solid middle peasant, and in 1928 even reached the semi-final stage of the Austrian Cup . In April 1928, Humenberger was first called up to the Austrian national team, his debut was unsuccessful: the Austrians lost to the Czechoslovak national team in Vienna 0: 1, and the young midfielder was never called upon after the failure of the national team. Although Humenberger regularly played for the national team of Vienna, on the basis of which the Austrian national team was also built.
In 1930, Humenberger moved to the club " Admira " from Vienna, but did not stay there for a long time and went to Switzerland , to the club " Zurich ", however, after spending only a season in the Swiss championship, Humenberger returned to the "Admira". At that time in history, Admira was on the rise, with the club Karl twice won the Austrian championship and played in the final, the main European club trophy in those years - the Mitropa Cup in 1934, in which, however, Bologna lost.
In 1936, Humenberger moved to France , where he played for Strasbourg , the club was always among the leaders of the French championship, but did not get to the medals, and in 1937 even reached the French Cup final, in which, with a score of 1: 2, he lost to “ Sochaux ” ". In 1938, Humenberger joined the club " Saint-Etienne ", in which he completed his career in 4th place in the French Championship.
Coaching
Coaching career Humenberger began after the war . His first club was Ortmann . In 1954, the Austrian invited the Dutch club Ajax , which, with the proclamation of professional football in the Netherlands, wanted to become the leader of European football, the Austrian coach was the first step in this direction, he became the first coach of Ajax, whose decisions were not controlled by a special committee in the club. In the first season of Humenberger in “Ajax” the club took the second place in the regional tournament, losing only to ICE , with which he scored the same number of points. In the 1956/57 season, the Ajax, under the leadership of Humenberger, won the Dutch Championship, but then the club did not shine, taking 3rd and 6th places respectively. After the 1958/59 season, Humenberger was fired, not achieving high results with the club, and besides, the club’s leadership did not like defensive football practiced by the Austrian.
After Ayaus, Humenberger led the Austria club from Salzburg and completed his career in the Belgian club Antwerp .
After the end of his coaching career, Humenberger did not leave football. He worked in the Austrian Football Union, supervising the construction of 8 fields in areas close to the Danube . Humenberger died of a heart attack on December 28, 1989 in a Vienna hospital.
