Stepfather

Otchim - a man in a family, the husband of his wife in relation to her children left over from a previous marriage (in Russian law, the term is used, but has no definition). In relation to the stepfather, step-children are called “ stepson ” or “ stepdaughter ”. Stepfather is a male synonym for the term “ stepmother ”.

In the case when the children are step-parents for both parents, they most often use the term “ adoptive parent ”, or simply “ father ”.

In the legislation of many countries of the world, including Russia , the stepfather does not have personal rights and obligations in relation to stepchildren and stepdaughters if they were not adopted by him or did not become his adopted children . All rights and obligations, if they were not limited by the judicial procedure, shall be preserved by the biological father of the child, including material maintenance (payment of alimony ).
