Biography

Born on April 6, 1924 in a village Sidorovskoye (now the Ust-Kubinsky district of the Vologda region) in a peasant family. Russian

At the end of primary school, he graduated from the school of FZU in the city of Sokol, Vologda region. He worked in the city of Sverdlovsk (now the city of Yekaterinburg ) at Uralmashzavod .

He was drafted into the Red Army in August 1942 . At the front in World War II from August 1943.

The gunner’s gunner of the 221st Guards Rifle Regiment ( 77th Guards Rifle Division , 61st Army , Central Front ), Komsomol member of the Guard, Junior Sergeant Nikolai Yakovlev, distinguished himself in the battles for the liberation of Komarinsky (now Bragin district ) Polesskaya (now Gomel region) Belarus .

From September 28 to 29, 1943, the machine gunner Yakovlev was one of the first to cross the Dnieper River in the vicinity of the village of Vyalye in the Gomel region of Belarus, skillfully covering the infantry crossing that attacked the enemy’s trenches with machine-gun fire.

On September 30, 1943, in a battle for the village of Galki in the Gomel region of Belarus, the Guard, Junior Sergeant Yakovlev participated in repelling the enemy’s violent counterattacks and destroyed about a hundred Nazis.

The 19-year-old courageous machine gunner died the death of the brave in battle on October 2, 1943 . He was buried in the urban village of Komarin in the Bragin district of the Gomel region of Belarus, and after the war he was reburied in a mass grave in the village of Galki in the Bragin district of the Gomel region of Belarus, including three hundred and ninety-two military personnel and one partisan.

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 15, 1944, for the exemplary performance of command missions on the front of the struggle against Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism of the guard shown, Junior Sergeant Yakovlev Nikolai Alexandrovich was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union .

Memory

  • The name of the Hero was assigned to a vessel of the Ministry of the River Fleet; at present, the ship is assigned to Vologda.
  • In the homeland of Nikolai Yakovlev and in the city of Sokol, Vologda Oblast, memorial plaques were erected in memory of him.
