Shumovik is a specialist in recording sound effects used for movies and computer games .
Experience shows that the sound received during field shooting is quite inexpressive (and often noisy with unnecessary sounds [1] ). In addition, film sets are designed for quick production and low cost - so plywood or polystyrene can play the role of marble [1] . And in staged fights they only outline blows, and do not strike at full strength. In this case, the footage has to re-sound . In cartoons, there is no full-scale shooting at all - and where there is noise, a noise canceler works.
The English name foley artist comes from the name of one of the pioneers of recording and recreating noise effects - Jack Foley ( 1891 - 1967 ) [2] - although noisemakers existed before, because theaters performed rather complicated special effects, and the radio worked for two decades. In the era of silent cinema, Foley was a stuntman and scout of nature at Universal Studios [1] . When the competitors released the first sound film , they began to hastily prepare the sound team - and Foley, who had previously dealt with the radio, also got into it, his task was to remake the mute musical " Floating Theater " into a sound one. Interestingly, for more than 30 years of dubbing, neither a photograph of the master in the studio nor a recording of his voice have been taken.
At first, the noise-makers voiced each editing frame in one go, and in case of error they re-voiced the entire frame. If, for example, there are steps on different surfaces in the frame and a key falls out of your pocket, the noise crew must hit these surfaces with shoes on time, and when the key falls out, throw the key in front of the microphone. Modern sound engineers have non-linear editing in their arsenal, so that sound can be moved forward or backward, made louder or quieter. But the general principles of recording and reproducing sounds are the same - and, in any case, a skilled noise-maker in one step will fill the whole frame with steps [1] .

Technology
Sound library sounds are used extremely rarely - for example, for the cries of animals or the sounds of military equipment. Usually noises are recorded at the same time as the movie is shot. Noisemaker tools - any device for viewing captured images (sometimes even a pocket player), directional microphone and ingenuity.
Controlled sound recording
The easiest way to record a sound effect is to use the same sound source. For example.
- Steps - hitting boots on a suitable surface [1] [3] [4] .
- Kiss - kiss your own hand.
- Shooting - go to a military training ground , or separately recorded directly on the site [5] .
- Other sounds that are impractical to record in the studio — sports, automobiles, etc. [3] [6] —are also “dubbed” in the same way.
Sound Source Editing
Noisemakers have a whole range of different devices and techniques that allow you to record irreproducible (or difficult to reproduce) sound.
- Walking on the grass - performed on a wide film of video and professional tape recorders [1] [4] .
- Bone crunch - breaking pasta [5] [7] or celery [6] [7] in front of a microphone.
- Collision of automobiles - some noisemakers use a metal box filled with iron parts ( crashbox [8] ), others [1] - bring automobile body parts to the studio.
- Horse hooves - beat halves of coconut on any surface [1] . However, noisemakers are increasingly moving away from this stamp and get real forged hooves at the slaughterhouse [7] .
- Punch - made on watermelon or meat [4] .
- Footsteps in the snow - reproduced by compressing a packet of starch [1] [5] .
It happens that the viewer is used to the substituted sounds and is surprised when he hears live, for example, a gun.
