History
The first game in the series was the first commercial flight simulator using voxel graphics technology. The game used its own engine company, Voxel Space , completely written in assembler . Voxel technology made it possible to display more detailed and realistic landscapes in comparison with the vector graphics of that time [1] .
Work was done on porting the first part of the game to the Super Nintendo game console , using the capabilities of the optional Super FX 2 processor, but subsequently this version of the game was canceled [2] .
Gameplay
The player pilots a combat helicopter RAH-66 Comanche , performing various military missions. The game uses a first-person view from the cockpit.
Game Series
During the existence of the series, four parts of the game and several sets of additional missions were released [3] :
- Comanche: Maximum Overkill (1992)
- Comanche: Global Challenge (1993) - Three New Campaigns
- Comanche: Over the Edge (1993) - Four New Campaigns
- Comanche CD (1994) - a collection that includes the first part of the game, two additions and 10 new missions
- Comanche 2 (1995)
- Werewolf vs Comanche 2.0 (1995) - a collection of two games with a compatible multiplayer mode
- Comanche 3 (1997)
- Comanche Gold (1998) - additional campaigns and various improvements
- Comanche 4 (2001) - Developed on the new Black Hawk Engine game engine, unlike Voxel Space, which developed the previous games in the series, this engine used polygonal rather than voxel graphics. Later, various modifications of the Black Hawk Engine were used in subsequent games of the company. [four]
Legacy
Comanche 4 was the last game in the series due to the closure of the Comanche RAH-66 helicopter program in February 2004.
