Biography
He was born in a famous musical family, in the building of the State Assignation Bank , where his father, Andrei Petrovich Lodiy , a famous musician, singer (graceful lyric tenor), and vocal teacher, who was in the circle of Glinka and Kukolnik , served as executor.
First he studied singing with his father, in 1874-1878. - at the St. Petersburg Conservatory (two years in the class of J. Corsi , then at K. Everardi ). He began his stage career as a vaudeville actor in the summer theaters of St. Petersburg under the pseudonym Lydia. In 1878 he made his debut in the party Faust ( “Faust” ) on the stage of the St. Petersburg Mariinsky Theater. From 1878 to 1880 and from 1882 to 1884. sang at the Mariinsky Theater , then participated in provincial troupes, repeatedly performed in concerts. He prepared about 40 opera parts and 25 roles from operettas. He also performed as a dramatic actor and pop (chamber) vocalist. The first performer of a number of romances by E. Napravnik , M. Balakirev , P. Tchaikovsky , M. Mussorgsky , who mostly performed to the accompaniment of the authors themselves.
He was friends with M. Mussorgsky, M. Balakirev, P. Tchaikovsky.
From 1882 he conducted pedagogical work in St. Petersburg, in 1887-1990 in Tiflis . In 1890, he organized his own courses with the opera class in St. Petersburg, and also taught at the Court Singing Chapel.
Daughter - Zoya Petrovna Lodiy (1886-1957) - Russian chamber singer (lyrical soprano).

“You cannot quite clearly imagine, dear friend, a striking feature ... of a picture when it is transmitted by a tenor! Some kind of nailed to the place, some inexorable, deadly love is heard!
