Gerhard Schröder ( Gerhard Schröder , September 11, 1910 , Saarbrücken - December 31, 1989 , Kampen ) is a German statesman and political figure.

Biography

In 1933 he joined the NSDAP and CA. In May 1941, he left the NSDAP and, with the permission of his military command, married Brigitte Landsberg, who was half Jewish.

After the war he joined the CDU . Minister of the Interior of Germany in 1953-1961. German Foreign Minister in 1961-1966. German Minister of Defense in 1966-1969.

In 1969, Schröder ran for president of Germany , but was defeated by Social Democratic candidate Gustav Heinemann .
