Biography

Timofei Myagkov was born on June 25, 1811 in the village of Teploye, Lebedyansky district of the Tambov province, in the family of Yegor Petrovich Myagkov’s single palace and his wife, Agafia Yemelyanovna. He entered the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture , where he studied, apparently, from 1833 to 1842 . At first he lived with the artist Maximov Alexei Maximovich. He combined his studies in Moscow with work - painted temples in the Tambov and Ryazan provinces and performed portraits of local landowners, merchants and clergy.

In 1842 he received the title of a non-class artist (numbered seven) from the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts for the painting “An Old Woman with a Girl Who Provides Alms to a Boy” - “in consideration of good knowledge in historical and portraiture painting”. In 1843 , he took part in an exhibition of student works organized on the occasion of the creation of the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture and was marked as "promising to be a great portrait painter." In 1845, Myagkov was awarded a second-degree silver medal for his work “The Family at the Tea Table” (“Family Scene”, “Family Portrait” - a portrait of the Zagryazhsky family) and a portrait of Mr. Zagryazhsky.

Timofey Egorovich worked a lot in churches and temples of Moscow and other cities, such as Tula , Tver , Yelets , Zadonsk , Lebedyan . He had his own house in Moscow on Vypolzovy Lane. Myagkov's daughter, Catherine, married artist Kolesov Alexei Mikhailovich .

Timofey Egorovich Myagkov died in Moscow on January 4 (21), 1865 and was buried at the Lazarevsky Cemetery in Moscow.

Creativity

Lost Work

Most of Myagkov’s works died along with temples. Today it is established that they have completed:

  • in 1834, for the temple of Dmitry Solunsky in Dankov, 9 large paintings, among which “Saturation of five thousand with five loaves” (8.5 x 10 m), and four images; for the St. George Church in the same Dankovo - 5 large paintings and 23 images;
  • in 1835 - paintings in the Church of the Nativity in Broads (destroyed in 1935); restoration of the icon of the Mother of God “Recovery of the Dead” (transferred to the Church of the Resurrection of the Word on the Assumption Enemy).
  • in 1842-1844 painting of the Vladimir Church in Yelets ;
  • in the period from 1844 to 1855. restoration work in the Miracle Monastery under the direction of architect M.D. Bykovsky , in particular, in the Alekseyevsky church (blown up in 1929);
  • circa 1847 - all the icons and wall paintings in the Temple of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in Tula (destroyed in 1929);
  • between 1848 and 1854 - paintings in the Transfiguration Cathedral in Tver (destroyed in 1935);
  • circa 1850 - iconostases for Vladimir Cathedral (project of architect K. Ton) in the Zadonsky Nativity of the Theotokos Monastery ; in the artistic sense, the icons of the Savior, the Mother of God and Alexander Nevsky in the main iconostasis, the Savior and the Mother of God in the chapel of St. martyr of Queen Alexandra, St. Martyr Valentina, St. Mary of Egypt, Abraham’s sacrifice and vision of the prophet Isaiah, altar icon of the Savior in the main altar, 9 arshins in height;
  • between 1855 and 1861 - wall paintings, including in the dome, in the New Kazan Cathedral of Lebedyan , as well as five large paintings, among which a copy of the painting by Alexander Ivanov, The Appearance of Christ to the People (not preserved);
  • in 1865 - wall painting in the church of the Trinity Life-Giving in Trinity Sloboda on Samoteka (together with the artist A. Kolesov);
  • paintings in the church of St. Nicholas on Pupysh (destroyed in 1931).

Among the lost works a whole series of portraits:

  • Avdotya Petrovna Elagina , mistress of one of the most famous Moscow literary salons of the Pushkin era
  • Ivan Alekseevich Yakovlev, father of Alexander Herzen
  • Solomon Mikhailovich Martynov (father of the infamous Nikolai Martynov )
  • Kopiev Alexey Danilovich , writer
  • Archbishop Eugene (Kazantsev)
  • Princes Golitsyn
  • Apraksins
  • Zagryazhsky
