Record History
In the 1990s, the TV group significantly lost in popularity compared to the 1980s. The reason was the reluctance of the group leader Mikhail Borzykin to think about the commercial component of his work and to cooperate with show business structures. Released in 1992, the album Smoke and the 1994 live album Live did not have commercial success. In 1994, two musicians of the TV set - guitarist Sergei Bogdanov and drummer Igor Fedorov - left the band. Left together, Borzykin and Shumailov continue to give concerts, and also in August 1995 they record a new album, which was called “Two”.
- Why "Two"?
- Firstly, the album itself turned out to be dual. At the beginning, songs were written more energetic, some even aggressive. And the second part of the album was lyrical. And secondly, we recorded it together with Kostya Shumailov, a keyboard player. For us this is a rather unique phenomenon, before we always worked with a live guitarist and drummer.
- Interview with M. Borzykin. The newspaper "I am young" // №14, April 1996
The album was written at the Baltika Radio studio, part of the work of the musicians was done at night, while the equipment was free. The album turned out to be very contrasting; it is no coincidence that when Caravan Records released the album in 2000, a red and white yin-yang was placed on the cover. Some of the songs (such as Zvezdnaya, Lyuli-lyuli, No Money) were made in the harsh manner typical of Television: energetic music organically combines with sharp, sharp, sometimes malicious lyrics. The compositions of the second part of the album (“Leaf”, “White Swan”, “Watercolor”) are in stark contrast with them. Lyrical, in some places ballad music is combined with romantic lyrics. This new experience of “Television” was very unexpected, because Borzykin for ten years of his creative activity has developed a steady reputation as a “tribune of Russian rock” with harsh, protest lyrics and music. Another difference between the disc “Two” from previous albums of the “TV” was that the musical style has shifted even more from “live” to electronic music . In particular, when recording the album, all instrumental parts were performed using a synthesizer and computer technology.
The song "You are on your way to Chicago" was considered as a possible soundtrack to Alexey Balabanov 's film "Brother-2" . As a result, this composition was not included in the film, but along with other songs that didn’t make it into the film, it was included in the collection “Brother-2: Behind the Scenes”.
