Block shot [1] or block ( eng. Blocked shot “blocked shot”) is a basketball term meaning a situation when a defense player blocks an opponent’s shot according to the rules. The main blocking players are front-line players - center and heavy forwards . However, players of other positions who have a good jump and coordination often become the best in this indicator. Block - an indicator that characterizes the actions of a basketball player in defense.
In the NBA, block shots have been officially counted since the 1973/1974 season . The recognized blockers in Russia are Andrei Kirilenko and Viktor Khryapa . Kirilenko became the first striker in the history of the NBA, who finished the season in first place in terms of “average shots per game”, which is 3.32 (regular season 2004/05). All 15 of his predecessors were central [2] .
