Colfax is a county in the state of New Mexico , USA . The administrative center of the district is the city of Raton . According to the 2010 census, the number of residents in the district was 13,750.

Geographical position
Located in the north of the state on the border with the state of Colorado. According to the US Census Bureau, Colfax County has a total area of ββ9,759 square kilometers, of which 9,733 square meters. kilometers takes land and 26 square meters. kilometers - water.
History
Colfax County was part of Taos County, one of the nine original administrative units of New Mexico. In 1859, Mora County was separated from Taos, and in 1869, Colfax County was separated from the latter. The mining center of Elizabethtown became the administrative center [1] . In 1872, the district center was moved to Simaron, and in 1881 - to Springer, located on the railway. In 1897, as a result of the referendum, the administrative center was again moved to the city of Raton, an important coal mining center located on the railway [2] .

In 2010, 13,760 people lived in the okrug (of which 50.9% were men and 49.1% were women), there were 6,011 households and 3,749 families. Racial composition : white - 83.8%, African - Americans - 0.5%, Native Americans - 1.5% and representatives of two or more races - 3.6%. 47.2% of the population were Hispanic [3] .
According to the 2010 census, the population of the district according to the age range was as follows: 20.6% - residents under 18 years of age, 3.1% - between 18 and 21 years old, 56.2% - from 21 to 65 years old and 20.1% - at the age of 65 years and older. The average age of the population is 46.7 years. For every 100 women in Colfax, there were 103.8 men, while for 100 adult women there were already 103.1 men of comparable age [3] .
Of the 6011 households, 62.4% were families: 45.9% of couples living together (12.8% with children under 18 years of age); 10.9% are women living without husbands and 5.5% are men living without wives. 37.6% did not have a family. On average, 2.22 people lead a household, and the average family size is 2.78 people. Alone 32.9% of the population lived, 12.9% were lonely elderly people (over 65) [3] .
Economics
In 2016, out of 10,662 able-bodied residents over 16 years old, 4,675 people had jobs. In 2014, the median income for a family was estimated at $ 47,614, for a household - at $ 32,693. The per capita income is $ 20,911. 16.9% of the total number of families in Colfax and 21.4% of the total population were below the poverty line at the time of the census [3] .
