Peak Turkino ( Spanish Pico Turquino ) - the highest point in Cuba (1972 m [2] ). The mountain is located in the southeastern part of the island , belongs to the Sierra Maestra mountains in the Cuban province of Santiago de Cuba . In the 1950s, Fidel Castro and his Movement associates used this zone as a base for the Cuban Revolution on July 26th .

According to popular belief, the name comes from the word "turquoise" ( Spanish. Turqui ). This is due to the fact that if you look from certain points on the mountain, it will have a turquoise hue. The first time was mentioned (under the name Tarquino ) on a map built by Gerardo Cramer at the end of the 18th century.
The bust of Jose Marti (author - Hilma Madeira) was installed on the peak of the mountain as a sign of his centenary.
