The Hughes 500 is a civilian version of the OH-6 Keyuz, which won the US Army competition for a new surveillance helicopter. A number of modifications of the machine have been developed, including the MD 520N, which implements the NOTAR concept, and the elongated MD 600. The modern military variants of the MD 500, under the designations MH-6 and AH-6, are called " Defender " or "little bird" ("Littlebird").
