The Bolshoi Theater of Havana , also the Grand Teatro [1] ( Spanish: Gran Teatro de La Habana ) is a theater in the Cuban capital Havana , built in 1914 - 1915 according to the project of architect Paul Belau . Is the home stage of the ; 1,500 seats make it one of the largest theaters in the world.

History
The official opening date of the first theater is April 15, 1838 , although the first performance on its stage took place in November 1837 . The current building was built in 1914 - 1915 according to the project of the Belgian architect of Transylvanian origin Paul Belau in the style of colonial baroque . The walls are decorated with statues of marble and stone, as well as allegorical sculptures by Giuseppe Moretti .
The building was called the Palace of the Galician Center ( Spanish Palacio del Centro Gallego , then for a long time it was called the Tacon Theater ( Spanish Teatro Tacón ), in 1985 it was renamed the Bolshoi Theater of Havana at the suggestion of the Cuban ballerina Alicia Alonso .
Enrico Caruso , Sarah Bernhardt , Anna Pavlova , Ruth Saint-Denis , , Arthur Rubinstein , Vicente Escudero , Maya Plisetskaya , Carla Fracci and others performed here. In addition to the theater stage, the building houses various concert halls, galleries, etc. [ specify ]
