Gallup [1] [2] ( Eng. Gallup , Navajo Naʼnízhoozhí ) is a city in the southwestern United States , the administrative center of McKinley County, New Mexico . The population of 20209 people (census 2000 ).

The city is located near the border with Navajo Station . Since the sale of alcohol is prohibited on the reservation, many residents of the reservation buy alcohol in Gallup. For many years, the city was a leader in the United States in the number of deaths related to alcohol [3] . In 2014, he was noted in the FBI report as the most dangerous city in New Mexico [4] .

According to the 2010 census, the population of Gallup was 21,678 people (of which 47.8% were men and 52.2% were women), the city had 7,590 households and 5,244 families. In the city there were 8097 buildings with an average density of 234 buildings per square kilometer of land. Racial composition : white - 35.2%, African-Americans - 1.2, Asians - 2.0%, Native Americans - 43.8% [5] .
According to the 2010 census, the city population according to the age range was distributed as follows: 30.5% - residents under the age of 18, 4.4% - between 18 and 21 years old, 54.4% - from 21 to 65 years old and 10.7% - at the age of 65 years and older. The average age of the population is 31.9 years. For every 100 females in Gallup, there are 91.5 males, while for 100 adult females there are already 86.4 males of comparable age [5] .
Of the 7590 households, 69.1% were families: 40.1% of couples living together (18.4% with children under 18 years of age); 21.4% are women living without husbands and 7.6% are men living without wives. 30.9% did not have a family. On average, 2.79 people conduct households, and the average family size is 3.34 people. Alone lived 25.4% of the population, 7.9% were lonely elderly people (over 65 years old) [5] .
Economics
In 2016, out of 15,755 people over 16 had 8349 jobs. At the same time, men had a median income of $ 40,711 a year, compared to $ 31,978 of the average annual income for women.
