Demographics
According to the 2000 census [2] , 33,405 people, 7,369 families lived in Hobbs, there were 10,040 households and 11,968 houses. The average population density was about 244.1 people per square kilometer. According to the census, Hobbs' racial composition was as follows: 63.52% White , 6.79% Black or African American , 1.07% Native American , 0.43% Asian , 0.04% Pacific Islander , 3.73% - representatives of mixed races, 24.42% - of other nationalities. Hispanics accounted for 42.18% of all residents.
Of the 10,040 households, 39.8% raised children under the age of 18, 54.1% were married couples, in 14.6% of the families women lived without husbands, 26.6% did not have families. 23.4% of the total number of families at the time of the census lived independently, while 10.1% were single elderly people aged 65 years and older. The average household size was 2.72 people and the average family size was 3.22 people.
According to the 2000 census, the population according to the age range was as follows: 30.4% - residents under 18 years old, 10.3% - between 18 and 24 years old, 28.0% - from 25 to 44 years old, 19.4% - from 45 to 64 years and 11.9% - at the age of 65 years and older. The average age of residents was 32 years. For every 100 females in Hobbs, there are 100.2 males, while for every 100 females 18 years and older, there are 99.2 males also over 18 years old.
The median income per household was $ 28,100 , and the median income per family was $ 33,017. At the same time, men had an average income of $ 31,352 per year, compared to $ 20,841 of the average annual income for women. Per capita income was $ 14,209 per year. 20.2% of the total number of families in the city and 24.2% of the total population were below the poverty line at the time of the census, with 32.3% of those under the age of 18 and 15.5% at the age of 65 and older.
