2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen won here in 2005 . Felipe Massa won the race three times from pole position in 2006 , 2007 and 2008 , and he is the only one, excluding Kimi Raikkonen , from the remaining racers of 2009 who won this Grand Prix. Jenson Button leads in the classification of pilots by 16 points ahead of his partner in Brawn , Rubens Barrichello . [1] Brawn leads the design cup by 43.5 points ahead of Red Bull .

Practice

At the first Friday session, Williams, Ferrari and McLaren performed well. Nico Rosberg, Lewis Hamilton and Jarno Trulli showed the result in the first three. Brawn, Toyota, Red Bull and Renault were in the middle during the session, while BMW and STR closed the field.

At Williams' second Friday session, Renault Red Bull most often performed well. Heikki Kovalainen, Fernando Alonso and Robert Kubica showed the three best times. Ferrari, Brawn and Toyota showed average results during the session, while Force India and STR closed the field.

After Friday's free races, the times were mixed up by Williams, BMW and McLaren showed double results while the leading teams Brawn and Red Bull performed very average during the session. [2]

Qualification

In all three qualifying sessions was the fastest Sebastian Vettel.

In the first part of the qualification, Lewis Hamilton showed the sixteenth time, the worst times were shown by Nelsinho Piquet, Sebastien Buemi, Giancarlo Fisichella and Sebastien Buemi. All of them showed times within 1:28.

In the second part of the qualification for the second time in a row passed Adrian Sutil. Nick Heidfeld qualified for the second race in a row as the eleventh.

In the third qualifying session, in the last minutes a fight for a pole between Red Bull and Brawn developed. Mark Webber showed the fastest time, but he was immediately blocked by Jenson Button. But in the end, the pole position went to Sebastian Vettel, who dominated during the qualification, who earned his second pole position in the season, the Button got the second place on the grid and his partner Rubens Barricell third. Interesting Facts

  • At this Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel became the youngest owner of three pole positions in the history of Formula 1. At the time of the conquest of the third pole, he was 21 years old, 11 months and 4 days old. The previous record belonged to Fernando Alonso. He won the third pole position at the French Grand Prix in 2004 at the age of 22 years, 11 months and 5 days [4] .
