The area of ​​Borsek is 96 km². The population is 2.864 people (as of 2002 ). The population density is 29 people / km². The majority of the population are Hungarians - seklers . Height above sea level - 900 m.

Borzek is located in the north of Khargit County , in the historical region of Transylvania , in the mountain region of the Outer Eastern Carpathians , near the Kaliman Mountains , Chahleu and Gurgiu . The distance from Borsek to the nearest town of Toplitz is 28 km, to Regina - 80 km, to Brasov - 180 km, to Iasi - 200 km, to Bucharest - 490 km.

Climate

The climate is temperate continental with mountain features. Winter is moderately mild; the average January temperature is 6 ° C. Summer is moderately cool; the average July temperature is 15 ° C. It is cool in the morning and evening, but warm and sunny throughout the day. Long soft and very beautiful autumn. Precipitation is over 700 mm per year, mainly in summer. A large number of sunny days, exceptionally clean mountain air. According to recent climatologist studies, the air in Borsek is the cleanest in Romania. The mountain range and coniferous forests covering the mountain slopes protect the resort from cold winds, help purify the air and saturate it with volatile and negative air ions.

Population

78% of the residents of Borsek are Hungarians , 21% Romanians and 0.5% Gypsies . Religiously: 75.5% of the population are Catholics , 20% are Orthodox , 2.2% are Protestants - reformates .

Resort

The city is famous primarily as a balneological resort, built on the sources of healing mineral waters. Mineral water Borseka has been known and recognized in Europe for several centuries, has repeatedly received the highest awards at international competitions - in Vienna ( 1873 ), Berlin ( 1876 ), Paris ( 1878 ). In 1806, production of mineral waters was established and in the first year 3 million liters of medicinal water were poured, which was supplied to many European countries [2] .

Natural healing factors: mountain climate, carbon dioxide, mofets (carbon dioxide exits to the surface of the earth), peat mud [2] . For drinking treatment, carbonic chloride-sulfate-bicarbonate sodium-potassium-magnesium waters are used. The resort uses climatotherapy, mud therapy, carbon dioxide baths (including “dry” baths in special booths over mofets), bathing in an indoor pool with mineral water, physiotherapeutic procedures, etc.

Indications for treatment. Diseases of the digestive system and metabolic disorders, cardiovascular, nervous and endocrine systems, concomitant diseases of the kidneys, respiratory system, skin [2] [3] .

Attractions

The city and the surrounding mountains attract a large number of winter sports enthusiasts, as well as tourists - with numerous mountain caves. Several ancient monasteries are located nearby.

Many tourist routes start from Borsek, excursions are organized to the monasteries of Moldova, to the Cave of the Bears, the Ice Cave, the underground museum of the Pride Cave, Sovatu, and the Corundum Ceramics Center.
