History

The Wamanmarka Fortress was founded as a Pukara fortress to protect the borders of part of Antisuy and the Inca's own possessions in Cuzco. It was a classic fukara from the heyday of the Incan empire. At the same time, it was part of the fortification system, consisting of Patallacta, Botamarca, Loyamarca, Uinyay-Wine . This system (together with Wamanmarku) provided protection for the route from Cuzco to the ceremonial and religious center of Machu Picchu .

For a long time, the fortress protected the Inca lands from the tribes that lived in the Amazonian jungle. It housed the military residence of the highest military command and Sapa Inca himself to conduct military operations against the tribes. It is not known why Wamanmark disappeared: several versions are being put forward - the fortress was left after the Spaniards captured Cuzco, Wamanmark was destroyed during the wars of the conquistadors led by Manko Yupanka and his heirs, or it was ruined by forest tribes.

To date, the remains of fortifications, walls. Stone blocks are scattered over the entire area of the object. The masonry, which is characteristic of Inca architecture, has been partially lost. At the same time, the ruins of the Tupac Yupanka Palace have been excavated, traces of powerful defensive fortifications located on a hill are noticeable [4] .
