Biography
Nikolay Sutgof was born on December 9, 1765 in a merchant family from the city of Vyborg; father - G. Sutgof.
From November 20, 1784, Suthgof worked in the Vyborg provincial government, from which he retired on October 2, 1786 as a collegiate secretary.
On November 18, 1786, he was enlisted for military service in the 4th battalion of the Finnish Chasseurs Corps with the rank of lieutenant . With this regiment participated in the Russian-Swedish war of 1788-1790. and for his valor he was transferred to the Guard in the Grenadier Regiment . Then Sutgof acted as Kiev major majestic.
On April 23, 1806, Suthgof was promoted to colonel and appointed commander of the Voronezh Musketeer Regiment, and on January 6, 1808, he was appointed his chief (the regiment was called the 37th Jaegersky since 1808). In the new position he fought during the Russian-Turkish war of 1806-1812. and for merits he was awarded the Order of Saint George of the 4th class on July 25, 1810

After Napoleon's invasion of the Russian Empire, Sutgof and his regiment, which was listed in the 3rd Brigade of the 8th Infantry Division and was part of the 2nd Corps (General Pyotr Kirillovich Essen ) of the Danube Army, took part in a series of battles of the Patriotic War of 1812 years .
After the expulsion of the enemy from Russia, Sutgof took part in the foreign campaign of the Russian army ; He was wounded in the battle of Bautzen and in the battle of nations .
June 1, 1815 for his services to the fatherland was awarded the rank of major general.
On February 2, 1814, at the battle of Montmer, General Sutgof was wounded with a saber in the head and captured by the French, but after a month and a half (March 18) he was released and continued to fight against Bonaparte.
After the end of the Napoleonic Wars, Suthgof was appointed to command the brigade of the 13th Infantry Division, and on October 14, 1826, he was appointed commander to the post of commandant of Helsingfors.
January 4, 1834 received an honorary resignation.
Nikolai Ivanovich Sutgof died on October 1, 1836 in the city of Vyborg and was buried in St. Petersburg at the Volkov Lutheran cemetery of the city.
