Darmstadt University of Technology

Darmstadt Technical University ( Technical University of Darmstadt [1] ( German: Technische Universität Darmstadt, TU Darmstadt ) - one of the most famous technical universities , is a member of TU 9 [2] . Founded on October 10, 1877 as the Darmstadt Higher Technical School ( German Technische Hochschule zu Darmstadt ), subsequently acquired the status of a higher educational institution, was the first educational institution in the world to teach a course in electrical engineering (in the academic year 1882/1883) [3] .

The main directions in TU Darmstadt is:

  1. architecture;
  2. engineering;
  3. Informatics;
  4. electrical engineering;
  5. pedagogy;
  6. physical and mathematical sciences (in the basement of one of the university buildings there was an atomic reactor for proton research);

But there are two areas that particularly characterize this university - this is mechanical engineering and electrical engineering.

The engineering building is located on a separate campus of the university, located in Standort Lichtwiese, a huge seven-story building where many different institutes are located, here are just a few: the mechatronics institute, the automotive industry institute, and the pressure processing institute.

There are workshops behind the building of the Faculty of Engineering, where students develop their projects related to:

  • aerospace industry (in the basement there is a stand for analyzing the operation of an aircraft jet turbine).
  • with the automotive industry (exploring alternative fuels ).
  • with network planning of technological processes (working out the mechanisms of operation of cyber-physical systems associated with industry 4.0 ).
  • with additive technologies (the university cooperates with EOS and has three SLM plants for printing from metal powder, deals with fundamental issues of forming parts and macrostructures, develops its own printing modes, and conducts research in the field of printing from metal particles much less than standard powder for printing).
  • and much more.

The university works closely with the Fraunhofer Institute, many teachers of innovative disciplines are employees of the institute.

The university has two main platforms for students: Moodle and TUCaN . The first is a warehouse for all lectures on selected subjects, the second (TUCaN) is a platform for registration for subjects of interest to you, here you can see the schedule, lecture plan, the number of credits per subject (CD), exams.

The university is divided into two main campuses:

  1. The central campus is "Stadtmitte". All buildings located here have the prefix S, for example, S1 / 03 (or S103) means that the building is located in the center, in the central group (number 1 after S).
  2. Lichtweis campus- "Lichtwiese". All buildings located here have the prefix L, for example L01 / 01 (or L101).
