Vedas
In the Rig Veda , Aditya contains seven cosmic deities headed by Varuna and accompanied by Mitra

- Daksha
- Indra
The eighth Aditya, Martanda , was rejected by Aditi , who left her seven sons. In the Yajur Veda (Taittiriya Samhita ) the number of Adityas is eight, the eighth is Vivasvat . The Rig Veda (X.72) speaks of the eight Adityas; the eighth is Martanda (later Vivasvan took his place).

As a class of deities, the Adityas of the Rig Vedas differed from other groups such as the Maruts , Ribhu and Visvadeva (although Mithra and Varuna were associated with the latter).
Brahmins
The Vedas do not identify the Adityas and have no classification of thirty-three gods, except for the Yajur Veda (VII.19), which speaks of the eleven gods of heaven ( Svarg ), eleven gods of airspace and eleven earthly gods. In various places of the Satapatha Brahmanas , eight or twelve Adityas are mentioned. List of Twelve Adityas:

Upanishads and Puranas
Usually Aditya is called Vishnu (" Chandogya Upanishad ") in His form of Vamana , since His mother is Aditi . The list of Adityas from Vishnu Purana (I.15) is as follows:
