Sincerity is one of the aspects of honesty , truthfulness, the absence of contradictions between real feelings and intentions regarding another person (or group of people) and how these feelings and intentions are presented to him in words.
The most important sign of insincerity is the inconsistency between verbal statements and non-verbal signs (gestures, facial expressions, intonation), which the speaker cannot always control.
Usually, sincerity is regarded as a positive quality. However, sincerity conflicts with politeness , with the norms of Western etiquette , which limit the expression “in the eye” of negative assessments, which could be offensive or insulting from the point of view of the interlocutor. From the Bushido point of view, this lack of sincerity is considered hypocrisy .
According to a study published in the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science , sincerity is associated with white, pink, and yellow (colors are arranged in decreasing order of positive correlation [1] .
American writer, professor and social researcher Bren Brown believes that shame prevents a person from showing sincerity. Social work teachers Dean H. Hepworth, Ronald H. Rooney, Jane Lawson define sincerity as “personal communication, characterized by naturalness, honesty, ease, openness and authenticity” [2] .
