The administrative center is the village of Elniki .
Geography
Elnikovsky district is located in the north-west of the republic. Forests occupy about 26.5 thousand ha. Mostly deciduous: oak , birch , linden , aspen , alder , maple , ash . There are small pine forests .
History
Elnikovsky district of the Mordovia district with the center in with. Elniki was formed in 1928 [K 1] . In 1930-1935 [K 2] and 1963-1965 the region was abolished, its territory was part of the Krasnoslobodsky district [4] .

In 2014, the Mordovian-Korinsky rural settlement and the village council of the same name were abolished, and the settlements included in their composition were included in the Bolshemordovsko-Poshatsky rural settlement and village council with an administrative center in the village of Bolshoi Mordovskiy Poshaty.
By the law of May 17, 2018 N 39-З, Novousadsky and Starotestelimsky rural settlements and village councils of the same name were abolished, and the settlements included in them were included in the Novodevichensky rural settlement and village council with an administrative center in the village of Novodevichye [16] .

- Abolished settlements
In 2011, the village of Brilovsky Plant was abolished [17] .
Economics
The area specializes in dairy and beef cattle breeding. At present, a number of collective farms have livestock complexes.
Of the industrial enterprises there are: a starch plant, an oil factory, a peat enterprise, an industrial plant, a radio factory. Large deposits of limestone have been discovered in the west of the district, on the basis of which a quarry works.
There are also several charcoal enterprises.
