History and Celebration of World Egg Day
In 1996 , in the Austrian capital city of Vienna , the regular conference of the International Egg Commission was held. Conference delegates considered it necessary to create their own holiday for the egg and its culinary derivatives. Then the day was chosen for this holiday — the 12th of October [1] .
The International Egg Commission claims that there are more than a dozen reasons to celebrate Egg Day. Many countries, especially where poultry is on the rise, readily supported this idea. Since then, the new holiday has become truly “worldwide.”
