Biography
Anatoly Alekseevich Bokarev was born in Temir-Khan-Shur of the Dagestan region (now - Buinaksk , Dagestan ) on November 26, 1910. His father was a school teacher. In 1930 he graduated from the Vladikavkaz Pedagogical Institute. He entered the graduate school of the Research Institute of Linguistics, studied under M. Ya. Nemirovsky and L.I. Zhirkov . He defended his dissertation in 1934 [1] .
In his work, Bokarev devoted much time to field work, repeatedly leaving on expeditions to Dagestan. When developing the theory of Dagestan languages, he studied in practice the Avar, Chamalinsky , Ahvakh , Andean, Karatinsky and Hvarshinsky languages. This knowledge helped Bokarev to develop local linguistics: to issue textbooks, edit publications, and prepare students for local educational institutions. In his work, Bokarev followed the doctrine of the language of N. Ya. Marr and I.I. Meshchaninov and was influenced by the studies of A.A. Potebni . One of the features of his work is the comparison of Dagestan languages with Russian [1] .
On January 1, 1941, Anatoly Bokarev was one of five employees in the office of the Caucasian yaphetic languages of the Institute of Language and Thinking [2] . The beginning of World War II caught him in Leningrad. He enlisted as a volunteer in the Red Army and was sent to defend the city. He died in battle in the fall of 1941 [1] (according to official documents, he went missing in February 1942, communications ceased from November 1941 [3] [4] ).
