DescriptionSmall bird, body length 18 - 21 cm, wingspan 43 - 45 cm. The color of the plumage is dark brown (it seems black in flight), there is a light band on the wing. Nadhvoste white with a dark longitudinal stripe in the middle. Fork tail.
SpreadIt nests on the islands of the northern Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. In summer and autumn it occurs over large depths near nesting sites, migrates to the south for the winter. Strong storms sometimes entered deep into the land.
LifestyleBy way of life is very similar to the straight-tailed petal and Wilson's petal , differing from them in larger size and forked tail. It is also a pelagic sea bird species, appearing on land only during the nesting period. To protect against predatory gulls go to land only at night. It nests in burrows. In laying 1 is white, occasionally with small reddish spots on the blunt end, an egg.
LifespanThe life span of the northern кач kachurok is unusually long for birds of such small sizes: the average is estimated at 20 years, and the maximum recorded 36 years. In 2003, Hausmann [2] discovered that the telomeres of these birds lengthen with age, which is the only example of such a phenomenon. However, it is likely that the same thing happens with the other members of the petrel-like order, since they are all relatively long-lived for birds of this size.
GuardOn the island of Fula in Scotland is organized by the reserve, in which the Northern Kachurka is included in the list of protected species. In the reserve 50 pairs, 0.1% of the population of Great Britain (1976) [3] .
