General information
Aimak Umnegovy has an area of 165,381 km². The population is 60 855 people (as of 2010 ). The population density of 0.37 people / km² is the lowest in Mongolia. The administrative center is the city of Dalanzadgad with a population of 17 thousand people. It is divided into 15 somons (districts). It was founded in 1931 .
Geography
Umnegov is located in the extreme south of Mongolia, in the Gobi desert. The state border with China passes along its southern limit. In the west and north-west it borders with aimak Bayanhongor , in the north with aimaks Uverhangay and Dundgov , in the east with Dornogov . In the aimak Umnegov in the Gobi desert, there is a geological formation of the Late Cretaceous ( Maastrichtian stage ) Baruun Goyot .

Economics
On the territory of aimak there are large deposits of ore minerals - primarily copper and gold, as well as high-quality coal ( Tavan-Tolgoi deposit ).
Tourism
There is also the Gobi-Gurvan-Sayhan National Park , visited by many tourists, as well as the Small Gobi Reserve .
